Ishmael, 11 year old drummer at the Raleigh Fairgrounds

On the afternoon of April 4 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh there was music under the huge oak tree near the Scott building. Then something was different. There was a drum solo. A commanding drum solo. Powerful. Sophisticated. As I drew near there was a crowd of people gathering. Pushing through I could hardly see the drummer - it was a little boy - going at the trap set like a professional. A tall man announced that the drummer was 11 year old Ishmael from Mississippi. A very talented young man!
